Salute

Found my salute
shattered
in a shoe box.

resolute among
the clatter,
crystal rocks

of reason
from when I
halted search.

pleading
with me to
weigh all worth.

Lost my fire,
smothered
by another’s ashes.

I was mired
by hovering ghosts,
all past

and no future.
no shred
of presence.

a suture,
I grabbed on,
altered my current.

I found my salute shattered in a shoe box,
and I have no skin left to pin it to.
