Think Big

Monster truck fantasies
Super Bowl wet dreams
bred in America
where we get our rocks off
bleeding stones dry

Big dreams of big things
think BIG, or be buried alive

We worship a big GOD
We build the biggest fences
with the whitest goddamn pickets
and the widest back yard

We have the bombshell wives
with the biggest of breasts
We have the biggest flagpoles
between our reclined legs

We drive the biggest cars
but we can’t provide the gas
We suck it through a straw
drink up like a milkshake

We have the biggest loaves of bread
and butter we can’t share
We have the biggest guns to wave
and biggest mouths of polished steel

Stars and stripes, wrapped up in the flag
Think big my son or be hung out to dry

  1. Okay…big dreams are alright if you get the ‘big’ picture, right? You are being cynical, correct?!! I’ve read some of your poems and they are artistic and provoking.
Am I making the assumption in the right prevail?

    • Yes, you are correct – this is probably the most cynical thing I’ve ever written. I think dreams are absolutely great to have (and necessary), but in this context the dreams are of a strictly greedy and materialistic nature. Thanks for reading!
